The 1999-2003 R1150GS

R1150GS July 1999, an updated version of the oilhead GS is presented. The main changes regarding the R1100GS are:
  • a new front part (beak, fairing, front-lights, dashboard);
  • a new "S"-style fork with lighter Telelever triangle;
  • new exhaust pipes, one on each sides of the engine like on the airhead;
  • hydraulic clutch;
  • a bigger engine (1130cc), the cylinders are from the R1200C while the heads, cams and crankshaft are from the R1100S;
  • a 6-speed gear box;
  • a redesigned rear subframe mounting on the gear box and footpeg support plates;
  • a larger oil cooler (R1100RT);
  • a shorter paralever swingarm but with same travel distance;
  • new colors.

Some remarks:
  • What about the driveshaft problems with the biggest angle needed with the new shorter swingarm?
  • It seems (Motorcycle Online test rides) that the new footpegs bracket are unprotected and fragile. Other problem related to these support plates, they are mouting points for the swingarm pivot. So if you broke the footpeg bracket, the bike is rendered inoperable.
